Francis K. Agyakwa is a first generation Ghanaian immigrant (naturalized United State Citizen), a father of two amazing boys, an educator, an advocate, a Trauma Informed Specialist, a certified Compassion Fatigue Trainer, and a Traditional African Drummer.

Mr. Agyakwa, graduated from the University of Ghana with his bachelor’s in Social work with Psychology. Upon graduating, as part of his National Services to his country (Ghana), he worked on a USAID sponsored project- Quality Improvement in Primary Education. (QUIPS) as a Community Facilitator and later as a deputy regional training director. Mr. Agyakwa travelled to different communities assessing, facilitating, and developing quality improvement educational plans including infrastructure development with community members and Leaders to enhance education. As a dupery regional trainer on the project, Mr. Agyakwa designed, developed and facilitated training on project sustainability in different languages.

Mr. Agyakwa immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 2003 to pursue his Master Degree in Social Work at the University of Denver, Graduate School of Social Work with an emphasis on Community and Leadership Development.

Since graduating from DU, Mr. Agyakwa has held a variety of positions across the field of child welfare including program specialist for children and youth who have been victims of abuse, a Program Coordinator for a Family Unification Program (FUP) at Urban Peak for youth aging out of Foster Care, Child/Adolescent therapist at the Family Crisis Center and the Mental Health Center of Denver.

Mr. Agyakwa spent nine years at Denver Department of Human Services as an ongoing youth social caseworker. As a Trauma Informed Program Administrator, he speared headed the infusing of trauma assessment and treatment in child welfare practices. As an Operational Coordinator, he led the effort to adopt a therapeutic model of training for Foster care providers and piloted Denver’s First Treatment/therapeutic Foster Care program.

When Mr. Agyakwa is not working, you would find him mountain/road biking with his boys, trying out new recipes, playing and watching football (soccer) hiking and capturing the beauties of nature and spending time with his community volunteering.
